SEA a journey

Final thoughts on a 3 month adventure

We have had a few requests to finish up our blog, so here I am! Hopefully this is not too late!

I just read the last entry written by Vanya, good stuff! I have big shoes to fill.

After the sunny beaches of Koh Phangan, we arrived back in Bangkok to seek out air conditioned internet cafes to get some respite from the never ending heat. This time was a blur of mango shakes and pad thai as we visited a few more sites and sought after the last few souvenirs.

Check out the wooden floor on this bus, the women is collecting fare from the passengers when they hop on. Vanya and I very proudly navigated the Bangkok bus system with lucky guesses, maps, and help from locals.

After 3 months of new beds, new foods, and new faces we began to look forward to the comforts of family and familarity. I began to see that life has more meaning with meaningful connections to people, being surround by strangers began to take its toll at the end of our trip. I was lucky to have Vanya with me, I feel sorry for some of those who travel alone.

I recall these thoughts but now a month later I again feel a bit of an itch to travel. Vanya and I are thinking about India or I think maybe South America. Of course we shall have to save up some dinero before this can happen again.

Here are some last words from me in a video, relishing over the 7 hours of sleep gained in a 9 hour stop over in Seoul Korea

So now one journey ends and another begins, Vanya starts her environmental engineering degree in September and I find a 9-5 Physiotherapy degree in pediatrics.

Hope you enjoyed our blog, Cheers V and B

Koh Phangan

Britta and I bought a pair of snokelling gear in town before we headed out to Haad Mai, a national marine park. Turned out to be great as we could easily swim right to the coral reef right off shore. The coral was amazing and there were lots of fish to see.

After spending 9 days on the snorkelling beach we decided it was time to try out a new beach.

On the next beach we move even closer to the beach again in a 200 bhat bungalow. I was excited cause the last bed we had was harder then rock and this one seemed softer. However beds can be decieving and it turned out to be made of straw!!! or at least it felt like it, some synthetic prickly material anyway. We put another fitted sheet on top to reduce scratchyness. Also saw our second cocroach in our room in SEA.

With the success of the last motorcycle adventure we upped the cc's of our motorbike to 125 from a 115 Honda the time before. We actually tried to rent the same 115 again but the guy convinced us that a bigger engine would be better. He was right of course as the hills on Koh Phangan are steep in some parts and I had to hop off the bike on the really steep ones or we wouldn't have made it last time. So with our extra 5 cc's we made it to the top of all the hills.

We took the bike down to Hat Rin on the Southern part of the island, it has a really nice sandy beach and a bit of waves. The town is very touristy though, very reminist of Vang Veng in Loas, with lots of tv restaurants etc.

We stopped in town on the way back and ate at the market stalls.

Headed back to bangkok on an 5 hour boat/ 7 hour bus ride. Arrived in Khao San Rd Bangkok at 3am!! 2 hours earlier then we were told. Luckly we found a room and slept a few hours before it got to hot.

Beach Paradise

Hello Everyone

A brief blurb and hello from the southern beaches of Thailand.

We have been back in Thailand for 10 days and still agree that it is our favorite country!

After a sleepless 12 hour bus ride and 4 hour ferry ride we are on the Phangan Island. We are staying in a clean bungalow a bit off the beach for $7, the beach is known for good snorkelling so we have purchased 2 snorkel sets. IT is cool to swim with the fishes and see the coral reefs.

Today we toured the island on a rented motorcycle and found a very beautiful beach, it was very nice.

We received some good news today, a niece! Hurray! We look forwards to discovering this new personality in our family!

More to come when we return to Bangkok in a week.

Think sunscreen thoughts our way!

Looking forwards to being home.
